Oil field worker killed in accident in Brazoria County
An oil field worker was killed in an industrial accident in Brazoria County the morning of March 14, according to multiple reports.
The incident occurred at a Denbury Resources site near the intersection of Highway 35 and County Road 129 in the Alvin area, according to KPRC/Click2Houston.com.
The worker was crushed by part of a rig that fell after a snatch block broke, according to KTRK/ABC13.com. A snatch block is a type of pulley that has a hook, Click2Houston.com reports. Workers were trying to move a piece of equipment to the top of an oil platform, according to KHOU.com. The equipment that fell weighs several thousand pounds, according to the reports.
KTRK/ABC13.com posted the following statement from Plano, Texas-based Denbury Resources Inc. (NYSE: DNR):
“On the morning of March 14th, a worker was involved in an incident while working on a rig in the Hastings oil field. Denbury and its contractors are working closely with local public officials following the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.”
The worker’s identity has not been released. It is not clear from the reports whether the worker was an employee of Denbury’s or one of its contractors.
